2/25/2015 Response to ABIM MOC Announcement

We at KPMOC are monitoring the changes in ABIM's MOC process and can assure you that no changes to the MOC Portfolio Program will be made at this time. ABIM diplomates can still use projects certified through this website to obtain 20 points per completed project.

Below is a summary of the changes to the ABIM MOC requirements:

Requirements that are NOT changing:
  • To maintain certification, you are required to complete 100 points every 5 years.
  • To be listed as participating in MOC, you are required to complete a MOC activity every 2 years.
  • Points can be earned by completing a medical knowledge module, practice assessment project (which includes the projects on www.kpmoc.org) or by taking the exam. You do not need to have a certain number of points to take the exam.
Changes:
  • The practice assessment requirement has been suspended for at least the next two years. However, physicians can choose to complete practice assessment projects, which will count towards their 100 MOC points. TPMG physicians can get 20 ABIM practice assessment points for each project that they complete through the www.kpmoc.org site.
  • Diplomates do not need to complete the patient voice requirement in the next two years.
  • Diplomates do not need to complete the patient safety requirement in the next two years.
  • Diplomates who are currently not certified but have satisfied all requirements for MOC except for the Practice Assessment requirement (100 points including passing the exam) will have their status changed to "certified."

Here is the ABIM announcement and a link to the frequently asked questions.

If you have any questions about these changes, you can contact ABIM directly or contact your local MOC program coordinator.
